Pasig City offers free cremation for residents’ COVID-related deaths

MANILA—The local government of Pasig City announced it will shoulder cremation of all deaths related to Covid-19 pandemic.  This was disclosed in the tweet of Mayor Vico Sotto lately. “Para sa taga-Pasig na may Covid-related death sagot ng lokal na pamahalaan ang cremation. Tumawag lang po sa 8-643-0000.

This tweet of the young mayor was in response to some inquiries from residents that reached his office regarding funeral services of fallen victims to the diseases. He advised the families to call the local government’s hotline for assistance.  He also thanked the Evergreen Chapels for agreeing to charge the city regular fees for the said cremation services. He also assured the public that the city will strictly follow the protocols set by the Department of Health in disposing of the cadavers to ensure 100% safety.

A resolution of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID) requires all local government units to designate funeral service facilities for the remains deceased Covid-19 patients. Funeral establishment refusing such services for Covid-19 patients would be penalized with corresponding fines and/or imprisonment as deemed necessary by legal courts.

As of 4pm of April 9, the DOH reported 206 new cases of Covid-19 infected persons bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,076 with 203 deaths and 124 recoveries.

The mayor also asked to offer our prayers for all departed members as we commemorate this Lenten Season in the hope that they will find peace and be with the Lord in His glorious resurrection.
