The Beirut explosion that rocked Lebanon has killed two Filipinos and injured six, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported on Wednesday.

According to DFA, Filipinos who died were in their employers’ homes when the explosion happened.

The agency assured that the Philippine Embassy in Beirut will continue to monitor the developing situation and is ready to provide assistance to Filipinos affected by Tuesday’s blast.

Around 33,000 Filipinos are currently in Lebanon, 75 percent of whom are in the Greater Beirut area.

The blast in Port of Beirut sent a huge shockwave, flipping cars and damaging distant buildings. It even registered as a 3.3 magnitude earthquake in the capital.

It killed at least 738 people and wounded over 4,000 people, its Health Minister Hamad Hassan told Reuters.
