House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and his supposed successor Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco is scheduled to meet with President Rodrigo Duterte on September 29, Tuesday at Malacañang.

This came after the heated speakership row in the lower chamber, according to the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

PDP-Laban Executive Director Ron Munsayac also disclosed will be accompanied by party leaders and coalition allies from the House of Representatives.

Velasco was endorsed by PDP-Laban in June 2019 for the speakership.

Duterte had brokered a deal with Cayetano and Velasco to share the top post in the House.

Under the term sharing agreement, Cayetano will serve for the first 15 months while Velasco will lead the chamber in the next 21 months.

For his part, Velasco reiterated that the agreement must be upheld “for God and for the country.”

“Let us uphold the agreement as this was made ‘FOR GOD AND OUR COUNTRY 1521’, Velasco said in a Facebook post. “I have always intended to honor the agreement. We all should. Our people deserve nothing less.”

The Marinduque lawmaker shared online old photos of him, Cayetano, and Majority Leader Martin Romualdez. They affixed their signatures on what looked like a document envelope.

“The covenant was crystal clear: a 15-21 term-sharing agreement. The first term expires on Sept 30, after which the second term immediately begins,” added Velasco. “That was the pledge made before the President.”
