Postponing the 2022 elections and using the pandemic as an excuse is not acceptable according to Vice President Leni Robredo.

This statement came after congressman recommended the deferment of the national elections if the pandemic continues to threaten safety of voters.

“Kung kayang buksan ang Manila Bay…bubuksan yung ibang tourism sites, walang dahilan para i-postpone,” Robredo said in her weekly radio show Biserbisyong Leni.

[If we can open Manila Bay, if we can open Boracay and other tourism sites, we have no reason to postpone it.]

The United States, New Zealand, South Korea and Netherlands, according to the vice president, are working through the pandemic to make their national elections possible this year despite the pandemic.

“Nagsalita na yung Comelec (Commission on Elections dito na hindi ipo-postpone. Yung pinaghahandan nilang scenario may COVID pa din,” she added.

[The Comelec already said that they will not postpone it. They are preparing for a scenario with COVID.]
