The National Bureau of Investigation has been ordered to do an investigation into the recent murder of Los Baños, Laguna Mayor Caesar Perez.

In a memorandum, the Department of Justice instructed the NBI to conduct a case build-up and file charges upon gathering sufficient evidence. Periodic progress reports within 30 days are required from the bureau to be submitted to the department.

Perez was shot by unidentified gunmen inside the municipal hall and was declared dead shortly after he was brought to the hospital. Police said they are looking at the mayor’s alleged drug ties or work-related issues as possible motives behind the murder.

The Laguna provincial police earlier created a special investigation task group to look into the killing of Perez.
