PH records 7,058 new COVID-19 cases

The Philippines reported 7,058 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the country’s total number of infections to 1,223,627.

The number of infections recorded on Sunday marked the third straight day that the country has logged more than 7,000 cases–the first time this happened since May 1 to 3. Four laboratories were not able to submit their data. 

The Department of Health also confirmed 6,852 new recoveries, bumping up the total number of Filipinos who recovered from the disease to 1,149,010. 

This means that as of 4 p.m. on Sunday, the Philippines has a total of 53,757 active cases of COVID-19.

One hundred thirty-nine additional deaths were reported from the virus, bringing COVID-19’s death toll in the Philippines to 20,860. This was also the fifth straight day that more than 100 deaths were recorded.

The government has noted that it wants to vaccinate 58 million Filipinos by the end of the year, down from the initial 70 million target.

House committees to hold hearings during break
