MANILA – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Tuesday that face shields are no longer mandatory for commuters in places under Alert Level 1, 2, and 3.
This follows President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ (IATF-EID) recommendation to make the use of face shields voluntary in places under Alert Level 1 to 3.
The revised guidelines on the usage of face shields, according to DOTr Undersecretary for Administrative Services Artemio Tuazon Jr., would be implemented immediately.
Face shields are still required in “community settings” for areas under Alert Level 5 and granular lockdowns, he said.
“For areas under Alert Level 4, local government units (LGUs) and private establishments are given the discretion to mandate the use of face shields,” Tuazon said in a statement on Tuesday.
As part of the country’s health and safety regulations against Covid-19, wearing face shields have been required in all means of public transportation since Aug. 15, 2020.
